Reflection

The Global Learning Medallion (GLM) program and I possess a common vision. I, like GLM constantly strive to explore the limits of academia by exceeding expectations. For three incredible years, I have excelled in various global learning courses, created an impactful capstone project, and attended numerous global learning engagement events. Due to the outstanding selection of faculty, courses, organizations, international/national internships, and events at Florida International University, I experienced a unique academic journey that stimulated and encouraged my growth as a global citizen.

My capstone project provided me an incredible opportunity to translate my research findings into a practical, accessible platform. My interaction with different women, doctors, and allied healthcare professionals continues to shape how I perceive and deal with different situations (global perspective). Since I intend on expanding my capstone project to locations where women do not have access to sexual reproductive health information, I aspire to learn about the resources, language, and history of the regions I travel to (global awareness). Furthermore, I am eager to include more students/volunteers interested in advocating for women’s reproductive health (global engagement). This could encourage other students to participate in research and compel students initiate their own global capstone project.

After receiving my Biology and Psychology dual-degrees from Florida International University, I intend on applying to various MD-PhD programs. The techniques, skills, and memories I have obtained from conducting research and practicing medicine as a paramedic have only reinforced my desire to become a physician-scientist. This occupation fits perfectly with my lifestyle and career ambitions because it combines my two true passions: laboratory research and clinical care. Overall, I am a diligent and dedicated life-long learner passionate about translational cancer research. In the future, I look forward to becoming a physician-scientist devoted to investigating alternative pharmacological treatment options for cancer patients. My passion to help others has evolved and become an integral part of the educated, diversified, and motivated Hispanic woman I am today. I carry with me the perspectives, conviction, and knowledge I have gained from various research and clinical experiences. Overall, I am continuously reminded of my willpower, love for life-long learning, and dedication to helping others unite our world with science.
